Summer has arrived! The time of sweet and light filled days, the time we have fun and feel free. It’s when our energy levels are at their highest. We spend every spare minute outdoors topping up on Vitamin D. We are a lot more outgoing and spend our time socialising with family and friends.
What a perfect time for consciously bringing out our playful side and really enjoying the moment. However, with our busy schedule of having fun, we don’t want to stop feeling connected. Summer provides us with so much natural energy, but we run the risk of missing out on its simple beauty, that’s why we all should take some time out to connect with our peaceful power inside.
This is why, at the start of the year, fellow yoga teacher Rosanna Gordon, meditation teacher Maggie Richards and I have created our series of seasonal yoga days. At the heart of every season, we run an all-day yoga & meditation workshop, a unique opportunity for people to treat themselves, have time to reconnect with their natural energies, and if nothing else to have some fun!
This summer we have an uplifting Summer Yoga Day in stall for you to turn on your inner sunshine. Experience energising physical and spiritual work-out through a variety of simple self-connecting practices.
But don’t forget, there are also lots of other things we can do to live and breathe in this incredible season:
Take time out. Whilst enjoying all the outdoor living, why not just wedge out in the garden or in the park for half an hour every so often. Just find a lovely spot somewhere in the sun or in the shade under a tree, take a blanket and lie back. What a lovely way to get in touch with our senses. Just close your eyes and take nice deep breaths. Listen to nature around you and smell the warm fragrant air.
Find joy in the kitchen. In summer it’s so easy to feel inspired by fresh produce, which is simply glorious at this time of year. Sweet and juicy fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, peaches, nectarines and apricots are in abundance. Salad leaves are at their best and their freshness and crunchiness go so well with any meal. Courgettes, peas and broad beans provide a lovely green compliment to a healthy diet. Enjoy the ripeness of all these ingredients and have some fun experimenting with some new recipes.
Relax and pamper. Spring tends to be the time of new beginnings, so a lot of us have probably been rushed off our feet for the past few months. Summer allows us to naturally feel better in our own skin, as we spend more time outside and our bodies enjoy the warmth. It’s a great opportunity to take a break, maybe take a trip to the country or the seaside, switch off and chill out. Only when we are relaxed, we can really soak up that lovely flow of extra energy.
Improve tone and flexibility. Making use of the higher energy levels try out a new form of exercise, maybe a more dynamic yoga class. Have some fun exploring new ways of having an energising work-out. Yoga is a simple self-connecting practice inviting our hearts to open to new experiences, whilst helping us to get that beautiful beach body toned up a little at the same time.
Keep balanced. With tons of activities filling our summer days, time just flies by. So it’s important to find a way to embrace the moment. Turn on your inner sunshine, and shine on the inside and out. Happy summer!
